Hyena in Petticoats

Hyena in Petticoats (Book and Lyrics by Lily Dwoskin, Music by Austin Nuckols) is the true life story of Mary Wollstonecraft, champion of women throughout history and author of the political manifesto, Vindication of the Rights of Women. She lived in a time when women could not even own property and yet she managed to write political works in league with the likes of Thomas Paine, have a secret romance with a woman, and a torrid love affair with a handsome, if dubious, diplomat. What followed were centuries of defamations, smears, violent battles, and an idea that would never truly fade.

“I’ll live forever…

In between every word. In the breath of the daughters, I’ll whisper,

‘be heard’.”

“Fanny’s Soliloquy” from Hyena in Petticoats by Lily Dwoskin and Austin Nuckols. Performed by Kate Loprest.

“My Vindication” from Hyena in Petticoats by Lily Dwoskin and Austin Nuckols. Performed by Ashley Chiu.

“Quiet words can…

change the world.”
